Background The ECA Institutional Repository project was implemented in 2009 to provide a framework to systematically collect, manage, preserve and disseminate the technical publication of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. The Project has diverse ongoing activities including digitization, cataloging of publications, batch imports, IR platform enhancements to mention a few. The project is mainly managed by KSS but given its institutional nature has participation from various sections, Divisions and Sub Regional offices. The first phase of the project was completed in 2011 and the second phase of sustaining the growth of the repository and completing the planned activities and consolidating the service has since started. Despite the success of the ECA IR in managing and making available all the technical information resources published at ECA, not all types of information materials have been included.
