Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
- Build robust and fault-tolerant data pipelines to ingest, clean, transform, and aggregate data from multiple sources, ensuring these pipelines adhere to data governance and security standards, particularly concerning personally identifiable information (PII) of beneficiaries.
- Develop and implement processes for data logging, monitoring, and error handling to ensure data quality and pipeline reliability.
- Collaborate with the global WFP TEC division and the Regional Office to align local solutions with corporate data architecture.
- Implement solutions that are cognizant of the operational context, including functionalities for offline data collection and synchronization.
- Develop and maintain data models and schemas to support business intelligence, analytics, and AI projects.
- Provide first line support for bugs and issues reported by end users.
- Work using agile methodologies (sprints, user stories, features).
- Test and conduct quality assurance tasks of solutions (data quality checks, UX/UI checks).
- Work closely with WFP South Sudan business units and field offices to understand their data needs and challenges. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to data focal points or cohorts on data management best practices and basic engineering principles.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education
- Advanced university degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field or first university degree with additional years of relevant work experience.
Experience
- For candidates with a master’s degree or higher: A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in data engineering or a similar role.
- For candidates with a bachelor’s degree: A minimum of 7 years of the above experience is required.
- Previous experience in emergency support operations and/or in hardship duty stations is essential.
Knowledge & Skills
- Proven track record in designing and building ETL/ELT processes.
- Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools.
- Proficiency in Python, Pyspark, and SQL is mandatory.
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
- Cloud Platforms & Big Data Tools
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI or other)
Languages
- Fluency (level C) in English language.
